The Appeal of Bacon Explained

Bacon is thought as one of the tastiest foods in Western culture. There are several sites devoted to this topic. There are even fan clubs. Astonishingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (these are not genuinely made out of Bacon but are rather designed to appear as if they have been – do a search if you do not believe me).

This, perhaps surprising popularity, makes me curious. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?

Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful place to look for resources for such information. A quick search shows that Bacon is merely cured meat that is made from various parts of a pig. There are several types of bacon which come from different parts of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). Furthermore, there are a great number of methods of preparing it: it can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, smoked, used as a additive in a salad and in many additional methods. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is something people can do on their own.

As Bacon is prepared from pigs (although in some countries, non-pig based bacon-like foods are also referred to as bacon, which is in my own opinion simply does not count), is actually not allowed for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism considers pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ animals and as such, all meats prepared from their flesh are forbidden.

I need to finish, my Bacon Wrapped Sausages is waiting for me. I suggest you go and buy some. You know you want to.
